Make-up and cosmetic stains:
We at North Pole Carpet Cleaning run into make-up, lipstick and other unknown cosmetic stains in carpeting, upholstery and fabrics frequently, especially when we are cleaning properties that still have carpeting in or outside the washroom. Below are a few quick and simple steps that should help remove most of the cosmetic stains and spots in your carpet or upholstery.
Each stain or spot is different, depending on whether it is oil based or non-oil based.
1. Determine what the spot could be. Ex – lipstick is oil based, eyes shadow is non-oil based.
2. Remove as much of the spot or product with a damp rag, baby wipe or paper towel.
3. Mix a teaspoon of dish soap with 1 cup water and work into spot with toothbrush or rag.
4. Blot the area with a damp rag until you are no longer removing any more of the spot.
5. If the spot remains repeat steps 3 and 4, except use degreaser instead of dish soap.
6. Rinse the area with water and dry up as much as possible, with a dry towel or wet-dry-vac.
If the spot is still noticeable there are other chemicals that can be used to remove tough spots, such as: rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, vinegar, paint/oil/grease removers and many others.
All chemicals should be used with caution, follow all warning labels and directions.
*Always test any chemical on an inconspicuous area, in case of bleaching, fading and discoloration.

Blood spots and stains:
We North Pole Carpet Cleaning run into some blood stains and spots in their lightly colored carpeting and upholstery. We thought it a good idea to share with everyone what we tell our customers on the matter of blood stains and spot removal from carpet and upholstery.
1. Get to the blood spot as soon as possible before it dries and follow the steps below.
2. Vacuum or blot up the blood, to remove any excess moisture.
3. Mix cold water and a small amount of dish soap (50 to 1 ratio) 1 cup = 16 tablespoons.
4. Light work the soapy water from the outside to the center of the area with a soft brush.
5. Blot up or use a wet-dry-vac to remove excess moisture.
6. Repeat steps 2-4 if you are seeing results.
If you are not able to get to the spot before it has dried there is only one different step.
Remove as much dried blood from the area. Using a spoon, back of a knife or something similar; scrape the dried blood and vacuum.
Follow steps 2-4 above.
Here are a few things NOT to do.
Use a hard bristle brush on the carpet or upholstery and scrub too much or hard.
This will cause extra wear to the spot and leave a noticeable wear pattern.
Mix a lot of soap into your water.
This leaves behind soap in the fabric or carpet and will attract dirt creating a new spot.
Not testing chemicals before use on noticeable areas of upholstery and carpet.
If the spot has stained and you are unable to remove it with simple soapy water, you can move onto chemicals.
*Warning, always test any chemical on an inconspicuous area, always follow warning labels
and never mix chemicals together!*
Carpet, tile, grout and upholstery cleaning for a rental or sale of a property:
Do you have a rental property or are looking to put your home on the market? Below are the top three principles to keep in mind when you or an agent are staging a home for a rental or sale. They are referred to as the 3 C’s of staging and they come from Barb Schwartz, founder of the home staging industry and CEO of stagedhomes.com.
The Three C’s
Clean - You want your home to be immaculate, we are talking both inside and out. Do not overlook any detail.
Most people are able to see past their own little messes they live in every day because it is their dirt. But, who would want to move into a stranger’s mess?
Clutter Free – We are speaking of your knick-knacks and other items that are taking up your counter space or sitting around collecting nothing but dust on the shelf. Box up those keepsakes and make sure they are out of sight.
Color – You want to have color, but don’t think that you need to run out and paint your kitchen an outlandish hue of red to accent your cabinets or countertop. Try and keep your colors neutral and compliment them with colors in changeable things, such as; towels, area rugs, bed spreads and paintings to name a few.
If you are looking to rent or put your home on the market, remember the 3 C’s. If you require some help with getting the carpet cleaned, tile shined, grout lines looking new and clean, or even need a cleaning on your upholstery give North Pole Carpet Cleaning a call. We are locally owned and operated here in North Pole, AK!

Pet urine, pet stains and pet odor:
What do you do when your pet has an accident on the carpet or upholstery? Many people struggle with pet stains, urine spots and the obnoxious odors that accompany them, which linger in our carpet and upholstery.
Over the years there have been many breakthroughs in chemicals that are able to help remove the color, smells and stains that our pets leave behind. However, many people do not know what to use or how to use it. There are a wide variety of chemicals that you can purchase that claim to remove pet spots and odor, but don’t seem to do the trick. Here are some suggestions from North Pole Carpet Cleaning.
As soon as the accident or spot is noticed:
1. Clean up as much moisture from the accident as possible by blotting with a cloth or paper towels. We don’t suggest people to use newspaper as the ink sometimes runs and spots your carpet.
2. Rinse the spot with cold water, pour water from outside the spot to the middle and blot the spot. Apply pressure to soak up as much as you can from the area.
3. Next, LIGHTLY spray a pet spotter. YOU DO NOT NEED A LOT. Make sure to use one that is an enzyme cleaner for pets, also know as a protein spotter. Make sure to follow the directions and warnings of the specific chemical.
4. Rinse and again soak up as much as you can from the carpet or upholstery.
5. Finally, it is best to hit the area with a deodorizer or urine post-spotter, to help with any lingering odors.
Common mistakes and important notes for removal of pet spots:
1. Not absorbing moisture before spraying or rinsing the spot.
2. Adding to much chemical cleaner, creating a giant foam mess, leaving behind large amounts of chemicals that attract dirt.
3. Not rinsing the spot with water after apply chemicals, make sure it is cold water.
*Warning, always test any chemical on an inconspicuous area, always follow warning labels
and never mix chemicals together!*

Emergency Carpet Stain Removal:
Your pals had been to your house and as well, everybody is drinking and also delighted until a glass of wine was spilled over your carpet. You were shocked simply because you just purchased your carpet a week ago. You've the broom, dust pan, windex, sponges and rubber gloves in their cleaning compartment. Are you going to use all of it if you drop a glass of wine on the carpet to be able to fully clean it up?
You would need to have the 3 things outlined in order to clean the wine spill on your carpeting.
1. Several clean cloth hand towels. You must first, quickly soak up all the excess liquid by using a clean bath towel. Apply pressure with your hands to the affected area and take in as much fluid as you can. You should do this soon after the spill happens.
2. Empty Spray Bottle Plus Dish Soap. Combine Three or four drops of dish soap on a spray bottle and fill it with hot water. In order for the solution to be dispersed equally, mix it by simply shaking the sprayer and then mixing the soap with water. Next, it’s your own preference whether or not to spray the area affected or maybe pour the mixed cure directly on your carpet exactly where the spillage took place then use a household spoon to agitate the mix into the spilled part on the new carpet. Don’t put on pressure by scrubbing up all the stained part for it may perhaps deteriorate the fabric of the carpet, do so just enough to be certain the soap is treating the liquid.
As soon as you are done applying the soap, absorb all the remaining liquid with one more dry and clean towel. It is important to absorb as much of the liquid as you can and never leave any extra cleaning soap in your carpet for it will certainly just attract even more dirt and also your carpet will be worse than before.
All the steps already stated are essential for an urgent cleaning. When you are still not satisfied with the outcome you obtained, then you should pour a small amount of plain water in the affected area and soak it up using a clean and dry cloth. Put the cloth in position and then set some large books over it then let it rest for a few hours. If perhaps the staining remained there then it’s time to employ the services of North Pole Carpet Cleaning.
